SUSTAINABILITY
We are passionate about the NZ environment.
Mike helped Eco action removing wild pine around the QT area, mostly as a volunteer, for over 10 years when we still lived there. Kiyomi helped a few years later.
Since we moved to Glenorchy, we help with community tree planting, trap line checking for pest control.
We plant native trees, fruit trees in our yard and we grow our own vegetables.
We are both very active. We run, hike, climb, bike, paddle, ski (Snowboard) and surf (Bodyboard).

The idea for the Trackhopper car relocation service was from a chance meeting with Derry Kingston in Golden Bay. He is the former owner of Heaphy Track Help.
Soon after we found it was exactly what the Routeburn track needed and in 2008 Trackhopper was born.
Since then we have continued to grow, offering more and more relocation options to passionate hikers exploring some of the South Island’s most beloved walking trails.
We still live in Glenorchy (why wouldn’t you?), drive for our clients every day, and run the Routeburn dozens of times each season.
OUR MISSIONS
To operate Trackhopper in as clean and sustainable a way as we possibly can.
To look after our customers and our team as if they are our family and friends.

How we aim for sustainability
1. We are reducing unnecessary usage of Vehicles
One way car relocation
We run / walk across the track to get back to the other end of the Routeburn
Pick up / Drop off drivers /car pooling
We try to match the timing for drivers to pick up other drivers who are working the next day. So they don’t have to drive an extra vehicle to get to the Routeburn Shelter or Divide. (This requires a lot of unseen logistics to make it happen.)
We have drivers from Glenorchy, Queenstown, Kingston and Te Anau.
We run, bike and paddle to pick up / drop off cars.
Mainly Dart / Rees and Routeburn Greenstone car relocations

2. Increasing our recycling efforts
- Almost all of our waste is paper which can and is recycled
- We reuse paper for notes and tin foil if it’s reusable
3. Driving sustainably
- Take shortest route
- No speeding, steady speed, gentle acceleration
- Avoid traffic jam (low traffic timing / Look for local route/timing)
4. Encouraging EV usage
- No extra charge for EV car relocation
(Even though it takes up to an extra hour due to charging EV vehicle)
