Routeburn Track is closed from Howden to Divide due to active land slide.

Pass creek is the only alternative route. (It is a route not a track.)

DoC has cut the bushes back from the route making it very easy to see.
There are orange triangles, but DoC have done such a good job that the route is very obvious.
About 2.5km and 400m elevation gain. It is very muddy and steep in places.
Recommended time of 2.5hours.

If it's raining, part of the route will be like a river. (ankle to shin deep)
It may take an extra 30min- 60min to hike the route.
Gaiters will be useful.Routeburn Track is closed from Howden to Divide due to active land slide.

Winter on the Routeburn.

We went to have a look at the Harris Saddle, on the 22nd June 2017. From Falls Hut, we followed tracks in the snow for about 1km. From there, we made our own for the next 2km. Very hard going, but the views were worth it. The bluffs near the Harris Saddle were covered with snow. It would have been extremely hard to get to MacKenzie hut. The avalanche risk looked high and definitely not worth the risk. A great day out and back.
