Routeburn Track condition 8th October 2015

Spring October 8th 2015
We have just been for a run to Lake Harris and back.
There is heavy snow loading on and above the Routeburn track near the Harris Saddle with evidence of numerous snow slides/avalanches.
It is likely there is similar conditions at Ocean Peak Corner above MacKenzie.
Best option for hiking the track is to hike up to the Lake Harris outlet and then return to the Routeburn Shelter.

The NZ Metservice has the most accurate and up-to-date weather conditions for the tracks and trails around Fiordland National Park.

It is an alpine environment and conditions can change very very quickly. Don't be caught out - make a plan, prepare well, and check the weather.
