A swim near the Routeburn Track
A short hike from Earland Falls, up a hanging valley, we found a great place for a swim. At about 1 degree celsius, with a few ice bergs, it was quite tropical. Kiyomi seemed to be happy 🙂Summer :-)

After 4 days of track closure, Kiyomi ran the Routeburn and took this photo of a section of the Harris Saddle. Almost no snow after several days of rain.
Spring
2 weeks ago, the track was looking quite white. Then there was a series of big snow storms which closed the track for 4 days. The snow has been rained off and the track is open again.
Spring Conditions on the Routeburn
For the last few weeks, the weather has been good for clearing the snow from the Routeburn Track. There will still be snow and ice around the Harris Saddle. For the last few years, there have been heavy snow falls in spring which have taken a while to clear and...check the weather!

It is an alpine environment and conditions can change very very quickly. Don't be caught out - make a plan, prepare well, and check the weather.
